This cycle route leads past 9 of 19 of the new lakes in this region and visitors can witness how the landscape of this former open pit mining area has changed.
This lakeland is just outside Leipzig and can be reached via “Leipzig Stadtpark“, without being disturbed by car traffic. The region which used to be dominated by brown coal open pit mining has become an unusually diverse recreational area including lots of lakes. Between Cospuden Lake and Zwenkau Lake visitors can choose between wild water rafting in a canoo park, swimming in pristine waters, visiting the Belantis water park or simply relaxing on the lakes‘ shores. There’s culture, too: Borna’s old town, the age-old “Wiprechtsburg“ castle or the baroque palace of Wiederau are all real finds in this rural idyll.
